VICTORY DAY REMEMBERED.Dear comrades of the CPDA,
Today, May 9th, represents a great milestone for all Communists. Today was the day Nazi Germany capitulated to the USSR during the Great Patriotic War (or World War II). Even though the initial Soviet response to Hitler's Operation Barbarossa was sluggish, with much territory lost, with eventual critical (and brutal) fighting at Moscow and Stalingrad, the Red Army eventually turned the tides against the Wehrmacht and hated SS. The toll in lives from the invasion and Germany's genocidal policies was steep, and the price paid by the citizens and soldiers of the Soviet Union was higher than any other combatant.
With twenty-eight million souls lost, this day is to be remember not only for it's clear and solid defeat of a hateful and murderous vision, it is to mourn those who gave their lives to crush the very heart of that vision. It began and ended with a word.
Not a particularly strong or powerful word, but a word that changed everything. It wasn't too long or difficult to spell. It wasn't uncommon either. In fact, it was a perfectly ordinary word, but, I suppose, its commonplace origin is what made it so special.
I loved that word.
But the word doesn't mean much without the story along with it and I was always one for telling good stories.
